I recently started following Humans of New York on Facebook, and it rapidly became a daily dose of inspiration for me. Brandon Stanton originally started taking pictures of the people who live in America's most populous city in order to create a photographic census.
But his people skills quickly made the project of portraits into a sensitive collection of humans and their stories, an online dialogue on our species' complexity. As he engages with the people he photographs, Brandon manages to touch very deep human dimensions, revealed through the captions on his photos.
To me, another sort of beauty revealed in his work is a consequence of his process; his own realization of the importance of going out into the world, and doing something you think is worth doing. His own growth through the interaction with absolute strangers, absolute humans.
